Dear NAWCC Members and Friends,
I am writing this just before going on the road to attend the Great Lakes Regional in Dearborn, MI. Chuck Auman our Controller returned from vacation on North Carolina's Outer Banks last week after having to evacuate as Hurricane Earle came up the coast.
August membership was down 96 members as compared to 112 last August. For our fiscal year to date, we are down 443 members as compared to 1,118 last year. Our primary need to stem the decline in membership is to attract new members to replace the 8-12% membership loss that occurs annually. Last year we brought in 1,301 new members and we need to double this number to see the association grow. If you have a repair shop, antique shop or other public venue where you could place NAWCC membership brochures, please contact member services to have a supply of brochures forwarded.
The staff is busy preparing for our James Bond Casino Night that is on Friday Sept 10. This is a fund raiser for the museum and library that ties into the exhibit on James Bond Watches. There are also educational lectures and programs on Saturday.
Work is almost completed on the museum's accreditation self-study. This voluminous document will be submitted in the next month to the American Association of Museum's Accreditation Commission. The document will be reviewed by AAM staff and then submitted to the Accreditation Commission. If accepted, a visiting team will be scheduled to visit the museum next year and prepare a report on the museum and make a recommendation to the Accreditation Commission.
